Thermal Finish Granite

Ash granite is a fine grained medium gray to dark gray granite with darker grey flecks and a thermal finish.

While the process can only be applied to stones like granite that have minerals with varying expansions rates as well as bluestone there are certain hard limestones and marbles that can also withstand the process.

Smooth and consistent texture. When the stone is honed it often lacks the reflection offered by polished surfaces. A rough and uneven surface resulting from splitting pointing and or rough cutting the granite. Because thermal and honed finishes do not maximize the color of the stone a diamond finish can be applied to enhance it.

The antique finish is produced by first applying a thermal finish and then a brushed finish to smooth out the characteristics of the stone structure. Another popular finish for granite slabs is a honed surface. The diamond finish is achieved by water jetting stone with 4 6 or 8 heads by either hand or machine. Honed granite surfaces are smooth and provide a great work surface.

Honed granite is smooth while thermal is noticeably rough both in appearance and texture. Honed granite has a soft matte finish and the lack of buffing allows for more of the stone s natural color to be seen. Absorption 0 07 compressive strength astm c170 avg. Testing details bulk density astm c97 avg. Diamond 4 6 8 water jet. This creates a matte or buffed appearance. The diamond 10 is a thermal finish with an added water jet treatment to enhance the color and appearance of the stone.
